From small beginnings as an all-volunteer agency, incorporated in 1978 as the Smith County Citizens Against Rape, the East Texas Crisis Center has become a haven for thousands of victims of family violence, sexual assault and violent crime. Within the core services to victims in five counties, programs are reaching underserved populations in rural areas as well as racial and Spanish-speaking minorities. Services included a safe shelter for families seeking safety, a 24 hour hotline (1-800-333-0358), counseling, crisis intervention, support groups, children's therapy, legal and hospital advocacy, and public education. Programs emphasize both prevention and intervention. Resale store operations provide clothing, household goods and furniture at no cost to families in extreme need. Sales to the public are an ancillary funding source for Crisis Center programs.

Mustangs of East Texas has been a strong supporter of the East Texas Crisis Center for many years and initiated the agency's annual car raffle fundraiser. In 1998, they volunteered to restore a 1965 Mustang Coupe which the center raffled and raised over $9,000 for services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Several of the Mustang Club members are also integral coordinators of the agency's annual Auto & Cycle Show fundraising event which, combined with the car raffle raised over $171,000 net proceeds in 2009.
